Skype and LDRs

Hello fellow LDRs and readers!
I don't usually use Skype because I was fortunate enough to see my boyfriend and friends in person. But now, since it has been almost a week of LDR (Long Distance Relationship), this app/program can change everything. It can make you go from sad and slightly depressed to very happy.

Seeing your significant other (s.o) via webcam on Skype is the best thing in the world (other than seeing them in person). Conversations are different, you are able to communicate like face-to-face but without physical touch.

When I talk on Skype and FB messenger, there is a pretty big difference in how I talk. Via Skype (voice or video or both), I am more positive; while via FB Messenger, I am more negative. Oh, how much I hate the FB Messengers "seen ___" feature. Seeing that your boyfriend or s.o seen your message at a particular time but didn't reply until like 20 minutes later can give paranoia.

Skyping once a week can do wonders to a relationship from what I heard. But planning each session because of the different schedules can be difficult.

For those that are not in the same time zone as their s.o, you also have the time difference. That is difficult. From what I remember earlier in the year, when E when to Spain for 2 weeks, was not easy. The 5 hour difference really screwed up my sleeping schedule; I stayed up until 4-5am just to have a quick 5 minute conversation before he goes on tours around Spain and Morocco.

This time, E and I are in the same time zone, which makes things a lot easier for both of us.  I have even downloaded a countdown app and put in some dates that I know he will be coming back home.

The next time I'll see him is next week (Sept 13) and I am really looking forward to it!

After that, I think he will try coming for our Commencement (Oct 9) but he won't be able to stay for long as he has classes the next day. It is also the weekend of Canadian Thanksgiving and he will be staying for around 3 days (hopefully).

So far, the first 6 days of LDR have been pretty rocky between us... I had a hard time accepting that our friend group dne (using the Calculus term ... "Does not exist") anymore because of different Universities and new friends. I am a pessimist and my boyfriend is (fortunately) not.

Going back for the victory lap semester is not as bad as it seems to me anymore. A lot of people from my age came back for another round too and I have reconnected with my previous years classmates. I have an old friend (from middle school), who came back as well, and we will be keeping each other company and restart our friendship again. I have " new" (old) friends in every class and these past few days went by quickly and fun.

That's all for this post!
Thanks for reading,
~ Marina
